Post Getting parts
Hello
I have just joined the forum as we have acquired a Proton gen 2 from my father in law for our daughter as her first car. She is currently learning to drive but sadly it has failed its MOT due to it needing a near side rear brake calliper and handbrake cable. It is a 2009 reg but only done 30k miles. Halfords have stated that they are unable to get the parts so I am really regretting getting it and insuring it for a learner driver as not cheap! Can anyone please advise where I could possible get these parts from so I can pass to Halfords to fix it as it is now undrivable as MOT ran out yesterday. My daughter goes to Uni in October so we really needed it for her to get as much practice in as possible before she goes back. Any help very gratefully received!
thank you

I am able to supply many parts for them. I have rear calipers in stock. Unfortunately the cables are not available in the UK anywhere other than Proton dealerships. I have helped many other people to import cables from Malaysia and I can do the same for you too.

Post Re: Getting parts
Hello all
Thank you so much for your responses. Halfords have now managed to get someone to clean up the parts and now it has passed its MOT - thank goodness as I called a dealer and was told the calipers would be very expensive.
I am told that they will be needed next year though so will keep all of the details you have kindly provided.
Whilst the car is 10 years old it has only done 30,000 miles so I am hoping not much more will go wrong as the parts seem expensive.
thanks again!

At 10 years old the seals in the calipers are starting to break down and leak on many gen2s. It is not caused by excessive use, just by ageing of the rubber. It is true that the calipers are very expensive from the dealers (over £200 each I believe), but there are cheaper alternatives available.
