Post Soon, a short trip to the top of the Emerald Isle...
...Car hire terms, (and lack of time) dictate we don't stray from the UK counties.

As a total newb to the place, I just wondered if the locals on here have any tips
about hidden gems to visit, (or avoid) and anything else a typical ignorant Anglo-
Saxon won't know what to do or say/not say, but probably should 8-[

Going to be based in Tyrone for just 3 nights, just as a half-term short holiday
treat for the family :smt001
- and certainly not for any enjoyable car-related activities, absolutely not.... :-"

You can do city tours (Belfast, Armagh etc ) depending on where you're staying, they're very good. Then if time allows you could do the game of thrones tour - they take you to lots of the places used as locations in the show. There's the titanic building in Belfast but it's £14 each for adults, but takes nearly a whole day so kinda worth it. The giants causeway up north is good and takes a while.
I would say Bushmills distillery but you obviously have the kids lol.
When are you over?

Thanks for the suggestions :thumb:
Landing at BFS on Tuesday evening and renting the cheapest 'fasted car in the world' as P.J. O'Rouke might say to drag ourselves to Tyrone and beyonder.

Had the Giants Causeway in mind anyway, G.o.T. tour won't mean anything to any of us - but Bushmills Distillery :-k :-D
- well the Mrs. is effectively teetotal, so she could handle the kids for an afternoon while Daddy :smt030 sobers up...

The distillery isn't far from the causeway anyway and Bushmills is a nice wee town for them to look round while you have a tour lol

There is Lough Neagh which isn't too far away either, big bird sanctuary and play park for the kids too. Armagh city has lots of cathedrals (being the supposed birthplace of St Patrick and all that) plus the planetarium which has lots of exhibitions on at the moment.
I am working all week otherwise I'd suggest a quick pitstop lol

Post Re: Soon, a short trip to the top of the Emerald Isle...
Got back early yesterday, had an enjoyable time and discovered the soda bread thing 8-[ - but didn't end-up buying the car that was the main reason for going :-"

We ended-up visiting Oxford Island, Portrush, Larne, Glenoe Waterfall, Giant's Causeway, Belfast and a few odd places inbetween.

Would have been more enjoyable on the twisty roads if the free 'upgrade' hire car, (a new Toyota Yaris 'Sport') (sic) had some power and most frustratingly, at least half-decent driving controls to compliment it's well-sorted chassis... #-o

Soda bread was fine - we bought a fair bit back with us :-D Not sure if the Mrs. will make a point of buying it from now on, but I won't complain if she does.

We had some tattie bread with a cooked breakfast, but nobody thought it special enough to beat gypsy/eggy bread as a favourite 8-[

Surprised no-one's asked about what sort of car I was looking to buy over there..... :-"

'fraid so... :(

To be fair, the bodywork is mostly good, but the trim a bit of a let-down and some twit had welded the diff #-o
Biggest issues came from it being stored for too long before the present owner 'rescued' it about a year ago.

Not a bad buy in context, just not for me sadly.

Pity. Another one will crop up eventually. Is your heart set on a Lotus?
